Group Meeting Reflection #1

Hey guys! Today marks week 3 of working on our portfolio projects. Today in class our teacher for Media Studies put as into groups and made us discuss elements of our portfolio projects with random classmates.

Out of all the ideas for portfolio projects that were stated there was one that I liked a lot. One of the girls in my group wanted to dedicate their film opening to a very personal cause. She wanted to make a film in which the story of her life is portrayed through an abundance of characters in almost an autobiographical way. Her story is one in which she moved here to the U.S from Colombia and felt as if she lost everything she knew. However, with time she adjusted to her new life and found happiness where she was once more. I liked how personal it seemed to her and I could tell that she was going to put lost of work into it.

All the rest of the ideas that were heard we all pretty decent just not as fully developed. When talking about my own film "Unplugged" everyone seemed to understand it clearly and like my ideas for the development of it.                                                                                                                                          Anyways, that's about it for today. More updates coming soon!!

Group meeting #2 REFLECTION ON THE FILM

Hey everyone, today in class our teacher put us into groups again for the first time in a while since the first group meeting. Incase you don't recall, at the time of the first group meeting everyone in my group including me shared the ideas we had for out film openings. However, this time we got to work in groups in order to discuss the process that we had done up to date.

Although we were put into different groups as the first time it was very easy for me to explain my film since me and my partner Joseph have been working on it quite a bit recently. As for everyone else, there were some people in my group who had either already finished their raw footage, started it, or had the film done overall.

The three other people in my group (Sofi, Renn and Roman) all had pretty good descriptions of their separate films. Roman had a film where a drug deal goes south resulting in the brutal arrest and integration of the person receiving the drugs. Sofi had a film in which a group of girls does and April fools gig that ends up with one of them dying to one of the pranks. And as my personal favorite, Renn was working on a western style film in which a pacifist accidently ends up killing someone and searches for one of the victims family members to request a death wish as punishment for what she did. In our group discussion we all shared different factors of our films like raw footage, editing, fonts for subtitles, shot usage, etc.

After talking about the films we squeezed in the time to discuss what plans we had for our CCR's that were explained to us just recently. Sofi had a cook'n talk kind of style for her idea and Renn decided to do something in which they ride a bike and comment on their film. Me and Roman didn't really have a set idea on what to do so we both took this time to start to consider (updates on it will come soon).

Costume Ideas For Portfolio Project

Hey guys! How is everyone? One of the most important things when it comes to films are the characters costume designs. A characters costume design is important since it enhances character depth and development. This is done with the careful selections made in clothing, accessories and overall aesthetics. One film that heavily inspires some of the costume designs for our 2 minute film opening is Diary Of A Whimpey Kid: Rodrick Rules. Specifically the scene where Rodrick and his band members from his band "Lรถaded Diper" (which happens to be a rock band) are seen playing. In this scene each member of the band are wearing clothes such as leather jackets, mostly dark colors, jeans, etc.

This will help when coming to creating our costumes since for the first minute of our film opening, we plan on recording a rock band of high school students practicing in their garage. Each of their costumes will allow the audience to have some kind of view on them both as rock players and as individual people by giving them their own unique styles while also making it clear that they are all part of a group together. However, when it comes to designing the costume for our main antagonist we're planning on making him stand out a little more then the others to show how he's different from them the same way the band member all the way to the left of the picture seen above is wearing brighter colors in comparison to the others while still fitting in with the overall aesthetic of the band.

Feel free to comment thoughts on these ideas. I'll be keeping all of you updated in upcoming blogs.

The Script

In todays blog I will be discussing the script for my films opening scene. A script is the written text for films, tv shows or any other kind of pieces of media. Scripts provide valuable information such as shots and composition, stage directions, setting, character actions and most importantly dialogue. In my opinion dialogue is the most crucial part of the script for our film opening because heavy words and bad language are exactly what is going to spark the first conflict in our film. Overall the script or screenplay of any kind of media is one of the most important things needed.

Knowing all this information, the time for me to write my own script came along. Thankfully because of previous projects I have done in the past (school related and not school related), some kind of experience making scripts is there. I have done many projects in class and used to write scripts for YouTube video intros when I was younger. Although it may not seem like much, I think it may help me having somewhat experience when it comes to making the script to my film opening. Some screenplays I have tried using for reference to write my own are one from "Star Wars A New Hope" (Because of structural reasons) and one from the movie "Black Panther" (because of the argumentative element of this particular scene)

Music Marketing #1

In this project, me and a group of four others were instructed to research music marketing strategies that are mainly used by pop artists. To do this we all did research on two pop label records and famous pop artists such as:Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carprenter. We all did research on our own artist separately and learned the base information in their sale strategies as well is the labels. We had a week to do this and got to find many things to help us in part 2 of our project (blog abt it coming soon).
